FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Atlantic's women's tennis took control of Friday afternoon's match at Florida Gulf Coast by winning the doubles point and then cruised to a 4-0 victory.
FAU, which moved to 3-0 in the young season, saw the senior doubles team of
Victoria Gomez O'Hayon /
Millie-Mae Matthews win their doubles match comfortably by a 6-0 score. On doubles court #3, the duo of
Panna Bartha /
Lexi Silna went down early, took control, and were holding a 5-2 lead in the 6-6 tiebreaker when the court #1 doubles duo of
Malwina Rowinska and
Lara Smejkal also came from behind with a 7-5 clinching win.
Sophomore
Panna Bartha gave the Owls their second point with a 6-2, 6-4 court #2 win. Much like her doubles match, Gomez O'Hayon cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win on court #1, putting FAU up 3-0. The match was clinched on court #4 with a 6-1, 6-2 win.
Maria Alvarez, assistant women's tennis coach
"The girls did a great job today being professional and caring for business. The number two doubles team had a swift victory, followed by the number one doubles team, who stayed tough in the tight 7-5 win to get the doubles point. I am proud that the girls stayed strong and played well to continue their dominance over FGCU."
