Owls Fall to UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida Atlantic's women's soccer team fell to the Blazers by a 1-0 score in an American Athletic Conference matchup on Sunday afternoon.
The Owls move to 2-6-3 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play after the match. This marked the second time these two teams have faced each other since entering the AAC. Florida Atlantic moves to 7-3-2 against UAB in program history.
Freshman goalkeeper Ashley Small recorded her first conference start of her career. In addition to a goalkeeper switch, junior Morgan McDonald was in the starting lineup for her third start of the season. In the first 16 minutes of the match, Small recorded two saves to keep the match 0-0. In the first half, both teams registered five shots each. Small ended the half with three saves to bring her total to eight saves on the year. The Owls held the match to 0-0 in the first 45 minutes.
A couple of minutes into the second half, the Blazers scored to take the lead 1-0 in the 52nd minute. Sofia Voldby was looking to tie with match with less than ten minutes left, but the shot was just above the goalpost. The Owls held the Blazers to only one goal and finished the match with 15 shots, six being on goal for the afternoon.

The Owls return home to face Rice in Paradise for the first time since moving to the American Athletic Conference on Thursday, Oct. 10. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN+. All home games at the FAU Soccer Stadium are free admission.
