HOUSTON, Texas – Florida Atlantic baseball dropped the series opener 5-4 to Rice on Friday night in Houston.
Schedule Update: FAU and Rice will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. (EST). Game two will start 50 minutes after game one ends.
Rice loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with a single, a double, and an intentional walk. With one out, a line drive to short was not fielded cleanly by Brando Leroux. The FAU shortstop flipped it to second but the Owls could not turn the double play as the winning run crossed home plate.
"Everybody will look at the ninth inning, but we missed opportunities to score a few more in the first inning. We had another chance later in the game and offensively we just weren't good. We didn't get it done."

THE BEGINNING
Florida Atlantic jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. An infield single, a hit by pitch, and a base hit up the middle loaded the bases for Christian Adams who drew a walk. A wild pitch brought in another run. Rice took a 3-2 lead on two home runs in the second and tacked on another to make it 4-2 in the third. THE TURNING POINT/THE FINISH
An RBI double by John Schroeder in the fifth brought FAU back within a run. It would stay 4-3 until the top of the ninth when Jake Millan led off with a game-tying solo home run.Rice loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with a single, a double, and an intentional walk.
