BOCA RATON, Fla. – C.J. Williams delivered a complete game shutout to lead Florida Atlantic baseball to a 5-0 victory over Tulane on Friday night. It was the program's first CG shutout since Brandon Rhodes went the distance in a 1-0 win over Georgetown on March 5, 2016.
Williams allowed a leadoff walk in the second and leadoff single in the fourth. He escaped both situations with little stress by inducing ground ball double plays.
The FAU offense gave their starter all the run support he would need with a four-run lead after three innings. The big hit came off the bat of
Brando Leroux in the bottom of the third. A bases loaded double to the left field corner brought three runs across.
Andrew McKenna added an RBI single in the seventh to make it 5-0. With his pitch count still in good shape, Williams retired the Green Wave in order in the eighth and worked around a one-out double in the ninth to finish what he started.
- Christian Adams finished 4-for-5 with four singles. It was the Owls' first four-hit performance of the season. Adams also scored two runs.
- Jalen DeBose went 2-for-4 with two runs scored as well. DeBose also stole two bases.
- Brando Leroux singled and stole a base in addition to his three-run double.
- John Schroeder singled twice to extend his hitting streak to seven games.
- Williams struck out five and walked just two. He conceded five hits on 111 pitches.
- The senior is now 5-2 on the season with a 2.83 ERA in 60.1 innings.
The Owls will look to clinch the series on Saturday at 4 p.m.
