Owls Fall in Middle Game Against Tulane

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Tulane scored seven unanswered runs on Saturday to defeat Florida Atlantic baseball 8-3 in the second of a three-game series.

THE BEGINNING

After being shutout on Friday, the Green Wave scored its first run of the series in the top of the first inning on Saturday. The Owls answered back three runs in the bottom of the second, all with two outs. Carter Brady doubled over the centerfielder's head to tie the game and two batters later, Jalen DeBose roped another double off the wall in left to score two.

THE TURNING POINT

After settling in to cruise through the second, third, and fourth innings, Tulane tagged FAU starter Tyler Murphy for three runs on three hits in the fifth to retake the lead. They would add a leadoff homer off reliever Sam Drumheller in the seventh to lead 5-3.

The Owls best chance to respond came in the bottom of the seventh, again with two outs. DeBose walked, John Schroeder lined a single to left, and Christian Adams beat out a ground ball to first for an infield hit. The bases were loaded but Spencer Rich popped out to end the threat.

THE FINISH

The Green Wave pulled away with three more insurance runs in the top of the ninth. The Owls put two on in the final half inning but stranded both runners once again.

QUOTABLE

"Two-out hits was the difference today. They scored six runs with two outs. I thought our guys came ready to play. We had intent. I thought Murphy was good, Drumheller was good, even if it got away there in the ninth. Tulane is a good team. We have to be ready to go again tomorrow. We've got another opportunity to win the series."

THE BATS

Schroeder, Adams, and Brady each finished with two hits apiece.
DeBose reached base three times with a double and two walks.
After leaving 13 on base on Friday, the Owls stranded another 11 on Saturday.

THE ARMS

Murphy made it through five and took his first loss of the season. He gave up two earned runs and struck out three.
Drumheller went 3.2 innings for his longest outing of the season. He recorded three strikeouts and conceded three runs.
Steven Andrews allowed two hits and one run before recording the last out in the top of the ninth.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Owls will have another chance to win the series on Sunday at noon.
