BELLEAIR, Fla. – Florida Atlantic men's golf will compete in its first American Conference Championship beginning Friday at Pelican GC in Belleair, Fla. The Owls enter this week off a team and individual win in their last event just over two weeks ago.
Â
Â
- When the Owls last competed on April 1 and 2 at the Southern Invitational in nearby Lake Worth, they dominated an eight-team field to win the event by 24 shots.
- All five countable scores finished inside the Top 10 led by Max Sturdza, who rewrote the record book on his way to an eight-shot individual victory.
- Sturdza has been the Owls top scorer in all nine events he's played in this season.
- The graduate senior has already laid claimed to most of the program's record book. His single season records set this season include par or better rounds (27), total birdies (125), and eagles (six). He also currently holds the lowest scoring average for a season (70.07).
- Sturdza also owns the most career rounds of par or better (114), total birdies (401), and total eagles (14). His career scoring average of 72.24 is second all-time behind Alex Maguire (71.94).
- This week the Owls will need contributions from all five in the lineup. Juan Delgado (T5), Jack Wehle (3rd), Jake Hibbert (T5), and Andres Atrio (T10) were all instrumental in the team victory two weeks ago.
- Wehle (73.70 scoring average) and Delgado (73.66) have gone back and forth as the team's number two score all season.
- In addition to his top five at the Southern Invitational, Delgado's next best finish was a solo sixth at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic in October – another event the Owls won as a team.
- Wehle fired a final round 65 at the Southern Invitational for the lowest round of his career as an Owl.
