BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball needed just seven innings on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep of Maine with a 10-0, run-rule victory. The Owls have won five straight going into a midweek matchup with UCF on Tuesday.
Â
After a walk-off win on Saturday, Sunday's finale could not match the drama. The Owls opened the scoring with bases loaded ground out in the second inning. Saturday's hero
Christian Adams made it 2-0 in the third with an RBI single.
Â
Sophomore starting pitcher
Tyler Murphy was in control on the mound holding the Black Bears scoreless through five innings. The Owls' offense continued to add to the lead with a
John Schroeder RBI single in the fifth inning to make it a 4-0 game.
Â
It was a 5-0 lead entering the bottom of the seventh. With one out,
Emilio Gonzalez lined an unconventional double off the glove of the Maine second baseman into right field, scoring Adams and Schroeder in the process. A single by
Patrick Ward scored Gonzalez and, after a pitching change, another hit by
Jake Millan, and a walk to Jalen Debose,
Brando Leroux lined a walk-off two-run single to right field.
Â
- Murphy earned the win and improved to 3-0. He struck out three, walked three, and allowed three hits.
- Sam Drumheller pitched the sixth and seventh innings and maintained the shutout. Â
- Leroux led the offense going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.
- Adams and Schroeder each finished 2-for-3 with one RBI.
- Every Owl that received a plate appearance reached base at least once.
- The Owls out-hit the Black Bears 11-4. Â Â
The Owls will look to extend their season-long winning streak to six games on Tuesday at UCF. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
