POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – The No. 16 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team (10-7, 2-2 CUSA) closed out play in the Florida Atlantic Beach Invitational on Saturday, splitting against Palm Beach Atlantic (9-10), 5-0, and No. 12 FIU (14-3, 1-1 CUSA), 4-1 at Pompano Beach.
Alivia Orvieto and
Kate McLaughlin struck first for the Sandy Owls, defeating Palm Beach Atlantic's Karla Cantero and Katelyn Nadeau in two sets, 21-16, 21-14.
Mikayla Law-Heese and
Olivia Strandberg extended Florida Atlantic's lead to 2-0 with another straight-set win on court five against PBA's Abby Plevin and Julia Golichowski, 21-8, 23-21.
Sloane Woolwine and
Marketa Svozilova clinched the match for the Sandy Owls, 3-0, after picking up a third-straight two-set victory on court one, 21-15, 21-19.
Courtney Moon and
Julie Honzovicova secured Florida Atlantic's fourth point, earning a two-set win against PBA's Gabriella Aziz and Lola Ackman, 21-15, 21-13. Florida Atlantic completed the 5-0 sweep on court three as
Sydney Schroder and
Logan Mignerey picked up the Sandy Owls' fifth straight-set sweep against the Sailfish's Abigail Mason and Annika Huhtamaki, 21-9, 25-23.
