BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic women's tennis team will end the second week of March on a busy note. The Owls will play host to three matches: the first scheduled for Thursday, Mar. 14 at 11 a.m. versus Yale, a Friday, Mar. 15 match will follow versus American Atlantic Conference member UTSA at 10 a.m,. and the week will end with a Sunday, Mar. 17 match versus Boston University, also at 10 a.m. All matches will be played at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center.
The Owls, ranked No. 55 in the the latest ITA national pol,l are 11-1 on the year and riding an 11-match winning streak. That streak will be tested on Thursday with Yale holding the all time series at 3-1. The two teams last played on March 20, 2022 with the Bulldogs coming away with the 4-3 win. Each of the four decisions between the two schools have ended in a 4-3 result, with Yale winning the last three matches.
On Friday, the Owls will face UTSA, an AAC member; however, the match counts as a regular-season match only. FAU was the 4-0 victor in the last meeting back on Feb. 6, 2021. The weekend will wrap up on St. Patrick's Day versus Boston University. The two teams have become reoccurring foes, playing 10 times in the last 24 years. The series stands dead even at 5-5. The Owls won the last meeting on March 12, 2022 by a 5-2 margin.Â
This week's lineup is expected to be very similar. Freshman
Panna Bartha is playing tremendous tennis, coming from behind and clinching a hotly contested Penn match for the Owls last week. Bartha entered this week with an 11-0 collegiate record.
Victoria Gomez O'Hayon also came back from being down a set to Penn to win her match and provide a much needed point in the 4-3 win. Gomez O'Hayon is 9-2 on the year.
Millie-Mae Matthews was the first to capture her court versus Penn and entered the week with an 8-2 record while team captain
Amber McGinnis is 7-4. Collectively, the Owls are 44-20 on the year in dual matches and are 60-35 overall. In doubles play, the team is 19-9 in dual match competition and 26-13 overall. Bartha is 8-3 while Gomez O'Hayon and Matthews are 7-2. McGinnis is 6-4 and
Carla Galmiche and
Lexi Silna hold 6-3 and 4-4 doubles marks, respectively.
