BOCA RATON, Fla. – C.J. Williams delivered seven shutout innings on Friday night to lead Florida Atlantic baseball to a 6-0 win over Stonehill. The Owls will have an opportunity to win the series on Saturday afternoon.
Â
The FAU offense gave their starter an early lead to protect with two runs in the first. RBI singles by
Andrew McKenna and
Emilio Gonzalez opened the scoring. That was all the cushion Williams needed as he did not allow a hit in the second, third, or fourth innings.
Â
The closest the Skyhawks came to cracking the Owls' senior was in the sixth when they put two runners in scoring position. Williams would escape though with his seventh strikeout of the night. He came back out for the seventh and tacked on two more Ks.
The Owls effectively salted the game away in the bottom of the seventh with some help from the Stonehill defense. McKenna's pop up in front of home plate with two outs and the bases loaded was dropped by the Skyhawks' catcher. Two runs scored on the play.
John Schroeder then made it a 5-0 game with an RBI single. Â
Â
Carter Brady blasted a solo home run in the eighth to make it a six-run lead.
Steven Andrews relieved Williams for the final two frames and retired the Skyhawks in order to seal the win. Â
Â
- Willaims improved to 2-0. His nine strikeouts were a career high. He has allowed just one run in his last 14 innings.
- Andrews struck out three in his two innings of work. Â
- Four Owl hitters finished with multi-hit games led by three from John Schroeder. McKenna, Gonzalez, and Spencer Rich all added two hits apiece. Â Â
- Rich stole a career high three bases to increase his season total to a perfect 6-for-6.
- Brady homered for the second consecutive game.
The Owls will look to make it two straight and win the series on Saturday at 4 p.m.
