The Owls Win, Move to 4-1

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic's women's tennis team moved to 4-1 on the year after defeating DePaul 4-0 early Sunday morning.
The Owls returned to the court about 12 hours after defeating Georgia State on Saturday to play host to DePaul. The Blue Deamons match was moved up from a previously scheduled 1 p.m. start to an 8 a.m. first serve due to an anticipated poor weather predicted for the late morning. The match started with singles play and the format was moved from clinch/play to clinch.
The early rise time proved perfect for the Owls, who wasted little time in taking a 1-0 lead off the racket of Victoria Gomez O'Hayon's 6-1, 6-2 victory. Lexi Silna and Carla Galmiche would follow minutes later with the same 6-1, 6-2 match scores. The fourth match was a little harder to come by but was handed to FAU by Panna Bartha who captured her match 6-2, 7-6 (7-1). With the match decided, the final two matches were not finished and the doubles was not played.
"I'm proud of the way the girls are showing up and competing," said Alvarez. "They found a way to play simple and disciplined tennis from start to finish. Good win to keep gaining confidence and keep the momentum going. We will continue to work hard for the upcoming matches at USF next week."
