BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball claimed a 5-1 victory over Towson on Saturday afternoon. Freshman
Trey Beard earned his first collegiate victory on the mound. FAU pitching has allowed just two runs in the first two games of the series.
For the second straight day, a Bryce Frederick solo home run gave Towson the first lead of the day. Making his first start at home, Beard found his footing after the home run. The freshman allowed just two more hits in the next four innings.
After leaving six runners on in the first four innings, the FAU offense kicked into gear in the fifth.
Spencer Rich led off with a double and
Mike La Rocca was hit by a pitch. The Owls then executed a double steal to put two runners in scoring position, and
Brando Leroux cashed in both with a base hit up the middle. The Owls would go on to add two more runs on bases loaded walks.
Danny Trehey and
Bryan Boully combined to hold the Tigers scoreless in the final four innings to seal the win. The Owls finished with 10 hits compared to six for Towson.
- Beard completed five innings with four strikeouts, two walks, and three hits allowed.
- Trehey recorded two strikeouts in his two scoreless frames.
- Boully delivered his second scoreless appearance of the season, ending the game with a strikeout.
- Rich and Christian Adams each recorded multiple hits for the second straight day.
- Leroux has now recorded at least one RBI in four of five games. He leads the Owls with nine on the season.
- Leroux and John Schroeder each have five-game hitting streaks to start the season.
- Emilio Gonzalez doubled, singled, and drove in a run with a bases loaded walk.
The Owls will go for the series sweep on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
