BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball claimed an 8-1 victory over Towson in its first home game of the 2024 season on Friday night. Senior
C.J. Williams tossed seven dominant innings on the mound to earn his first win of the campaign.
While the FAU offense sputtered a bit early, Towson opened the scoring in the second inning with a solo home run. Williams slammed the door from that point forward and the bats received the spark they needed in the fourth.
Brando Leroux drove in two with an opposite field single. Two batters later, a hard -hit ball by
Daulton Frank resulted in an error and another run on the board for the Owls.
The Owls added another three in the fifth inning. An RBI single by
Mike La Rocca, a bases loaded walk drawn by Frank, and an RBI ground out by
Emilio Gonzalez made it a 6-1 game.
Williams put a cap on his night in the seventh inning, picking up his sixth strikeout to strand two Towson runners on base.
Christian Adams launched his first home run of the season – a two-run shot – in the eighth inning for a pair of insurance runs. On the mound,
Dylan Oborne backed up Williams with two shutout frames to close it out.
- Williams recorded career highs in innings (7) and pitches thrown (93). He struck out six, walked three, and allowed just three hits.
- Oborne struck out five of the nine batters he faced for his second consecutive scoreless outing.
- Adams led the way with a 3-for-5 night including and double and his first home run of the season.
- La Rocca singled twice and recorded his first RBI as an Owl.
- Leroux added to his team-leading RBI total, now up to seven on the season. He reached base three times with a single, walk, and a hit by pitch and scored two runs.
The Owls and Tigers go again on Saturday afternoon with a 4 p.m. first pitch.
