Jakus Era Begins Monday Night Versus Indiana State

XENIA, Ohio – Florida Atlantic's men's basketball team will officially kick off the John Jakus era on Monday, Nov. 4, with the Owls facing off against Indiana State. The game, scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., will be the finale of the Total Athlete Tip-Off that features six NCAA Division I teams opening their 2024-25 seasons.

This marks the first time that the two schools meet in their program's histories. The game will be held at the recently opened Wooden Family Fieldhouse, located in Xenia, Ohio. Fans in the South Florida area will be able to watch the game on YouTube and it can be listened to over the radio via FoxSports 640am South Florida. The game will also be streamed on on the Athletes in Action USA YouTube channel found HERE.

FAU begins their regular season following two exhibition outings, a rousing 104-53 victory over Saint Leo at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena and a trip to Auburn where they played the No. 11 Tigers.

ABOUT THE OWLS

Jakus enters his first season at the helm of the Owls
The team brings back four returning players: Carroll, redshirt freshman guards Devin Vanterpool and Jakel Powell, and redshirt sophomore guard Jack Johnson
Of the Owls' 11 additions, six were acquired via the transfer portal and five freshmen come from the international pool
Three players: graduate guard KyKy Tandy (Jacksonville State), junior guard Leland Walker (Eastern Kentucky), and redshirt senior guard Ken Evans Jr. (Jackson State), are coming off seasons in which they were first team all-conference at their previous spots, with Evans winning Player of the Year for the Southwestern Athletic Conference
As a team, FAU was ranked fifth in the American Athletic Conference's Preseason Coaches' poll. Tandy was named to the preseason All-AAC Second Team
In total, the Owls are represented by seven different countries: the United States, Canada, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Senegal, and Spain

ABOUT THE SYCAMORES

Indiana State also welcomes an incoming head coach with Matthew Graves taking over the program after three seasons as their associate head coach
The Sycamores are the reigning runners up of the NIT Tournament
With 32 wins in their successful 2023-24 season, Indiana State had the third most victories in the nation
As an offense, the program was seventh in the nation in points per game in 2023-24, averaging 84.8
The team brings in 11 newcomers to supplement their four returners

UP NEXT

The Owls will host their home opener at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena on Friday, Nov. 8, taking on Coastal Georgia. The matchup will air on ESPN+ and tip off at 7 p.m.
