Owls Sweep Midseason for Second Straight Year

FAIRFAX, Va. – For the second straight season, the Florida Atlantic men's and women's swimming and diving teams have swept the competition at the 2024 Patriot Invitational with school records once again being broken on Saturday evening.
The Owls continued to flourish Saturday with five more event victories and one more school record, ultimately totaling a weekend that saw three school records and 14 first-place finishes.

QUICK HITS
Women
- The finals began with a one, two Owls finish in the 200 back with Megan Drover-Smith (1:57.93) and Aura Vilarrasa (2:00.33) taking the top spots
- Dolores Margni then got herself a win in the 200 fly (1:58.92)
- It was a two, three finish for the Owls in the 200 breast thanks to Bilú Bianchi (2:14.61) and Nula Gow (2:15.24)
- Ludo Pavia grabbed third in the 100 free (50.25)
- Friday's diving action saw Trinity McNall take home second in the 1m diving (268.75)
- The final night of midseason ended with a win in the 400 free relay. The team of Pavia – Bry Bellile – Izzy Jones – Aura Vilarrasa clocked a winning time of 3:21.26 for a new school record
Men
- Saturday began for the Owls with a win for Daniel Laureyssens in the 100 free (43.80)
- Freshman James Shevchenko then won the 200 fly in a time of 1:47.57
- In the 200 breast, Matthew Hand finished third for the Owls (2:00.33)
- On the diving board Friday, the Owls went two, three, four with the help of Trevor Kuhn (342.00), Isac Faxius (339.10) and Rocco Simonelli (327.40)
- The night concluded with a third place finish in the 400 free relay. The team of Timo Paisley, Logan Thornsberry, Payne Smith and Laureyssens finished in a time of 2:59.13
ON DECK
Select Owl swimmers will participate in the Toyota U.S. Open, Dec. 4 – Dec. 7 and the CSCAA Open Water National Championship on Dec. 15. The next official meet for Florida Atlantic will be Dec. 14 in Coral Cables as the Owls face the University of Miami women's team and Cincinnati.OWLS ON SOCIAL MEDIA
