Owls set to open 2023 season against Little Rock

BOCA RATON, Fla. – On the heels of a phenomenal 2022 season, which included an incredible run through the Conference USA Tournament and a berth in the C-USA Championship match, Florida Atlantic women's soccer is primed to make more noise in 2023. The Owls enter a new era in the American Athletic Conference.

About the Owls

2023 marks a new era for the Owls as they embark on their inaugural season in the American Athletic Conference.
In 2022, the Owls made an incredible postseason run, powering their way through the Conference USA Tournament to earn a berth in the C-USA Championship match before falling in a 3-2 double overtime heartbreaker against the UTSA Roadrunners.
Leading the Owl offense are returners Mia Sennes, who was one of three Owls named to the AAC preseason watchlist, and Sofia Voldby. The pair combined for six goals last season.
Sennes is also the Owls leading returner in assists (4).
In addition to Sennes and Voldby, the Owls bring back 2022 goal scorers in Morgan McDonald, another AAC preseason watchlist honoree, and Elin Simonardottir. Each notched two goals last season.
The Owls also return Jodi Smith, the Owls' final AAC preseason watchlist honoree, who anchored the Owls' backline in 2022. She started all 22 matches and recorded a team second most 1,840 minutes a season ago.
Lexi Gonzalez was the Owls' leading goalkeeper a season ago and will look to continue her momentum into 2023. Gonzalez started 18 matches for the Owls in 2022 and recorded a team-best 8-8-2 record, while also collecting a team-high 43 saves and a team-leading four shutouts and two combined shutouts.
