Florida Atlantic splits midweek doubleheader against FGCU to close out regular season road slate

FORT MYERS, Fla. – No. 15 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball (14-12, 1-0 C-USA) split a midweek doubleheader against the FGCU Eagles (13-15, 5-4 ASUN) on Wednesday, falling 3-2 in their first match but closed out the day in impressive fashion winning 4-1.

FGCU took the opening lead after a win on court four, as Emma Grace Robertson and Ashleigh Adams fell in straight-sets against FGCU's Lexie Hamilton and Kailyn Luebbers, 19-21, 11-21. The Eagles extended their lead to two after Logan Mignerey and Stephanie Young fell in three sets on court five against Jacqueline Carpenter and Kristina Gluc of FGCU, 16-21, 29-27, 12-15. FGCU clinched the match on court one as the Sandy Owls' Ellie Austin and Christine Jarman dropped a two-setter, 20-22, 14-21. Florida Atlantic got one back at pair three as the Sandy Owls' Courtney Moon and Marketa Svozilova earned a three-set comeback win against FGCU's Dylan Brewer and Nicole De Oliveira, 19-21, 21-17, 15-13. The Sandy Owls secured one more point on court two after Jillienne Cloud and Julie Honzovicova earned a straight-set win, 21-19, 21-14, against the Eagles' Trinity Rosales and Shelby Beisner.
Florida Atlantic bounced back in a big way to close out the day. Logan Mignerey and Stephanie Young got things started with a straight-set win over FGCU's Jacqueline Carpenter and Kristina Gluc, 21-12, 21-14. The Sandy Owls extended their lead to two on court five as Ashleigh Adams and Emma Grace Robertson earned a two-set victory against the Eagles' Kaitlyn Luebbers and Mia Thompson, 21-18, 20-22, 16-14. Courtney Moon and Sydney Schroder clinched the match for the Sandy Owls on court three, capturing a 23-21, 21-16 against FGCU's Lexie Hamilton and Nicole De Oliveira. FGCU cut into the Sandy Owls lead on court one as Ellie Austin and Christine Jarman fell in a two-setter against the Eagles' Maddison Parmelly and Kacie Johnson, 21-12, 22-20. However, FAU tacked on one more on court two as Jillienne Cloud and Julie Honzovicova earned a huge 21-16, 21-18 two-setter to cap off the Sandy Owls 4-1 win.
