Owls set to open home slate this weekend, hosting FAU Beach Invitational

BOCA RATON, Fla. – No. 13 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball (3-1) opens up its home slate this weekend as they host the 2023 FAU Beach Invitational on Friday & Saturday, March 3-4.

The tournament field features the host Owls, along with Palm Beach Atlantic, Saint Leo, Southern Miss, and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.

The Owls open the weekend on March 3 against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (2-2) at 10:30 a.m. FAU will close out their opening day against Saint Leo (4-1) at 4:30 p.m. The Owls are 1-0 all-time against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, earning a 4-1 win in their only meeting on March 4, 2018. Against Saint Leo, FAU holds a 2-0 all-time advantage, including a 5-0 win in the Owls last meeting against the Lions on April 9, 2022.

FAU will have their first serve on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. against Southern Miss (5-0), before closing out the weekend against Palm Beach Atlantic (3-3) at 4:30 p.m. FAU is 2-0 all-time against Southern Miss, capturing a 5-0 win in their last meeting against the Golden Eagles on Feb. 26, 2022. The Owls also hold a perfect record against Palm Beach Atlantic, 3-0, taking a 5-0 contest in their last matchup against the Sailfish on April 8, 2022.

The team is doing really well. The kids are getting really healthy, and I think it's always nice to go play against kids in different colored jerseys. I think we were pretty happy with the way we played this past weekend, but there's room for improvement. I don't think there's a better place to come back and play than here in Paradise. The courts are looking good, and the girls really enjoy being able to play at home, so we are definitely excited to be here. We've got some solid teams coming in and it's a good opportunity for us to continue getting better. Our goal is to be playing our best volleyball by the end of the season and this weekend is a good step in the right direction."
