FAU Splits Rescheduled Doubleheader with Charlotte

BOCA RATON, Fla. – With the anticipation of bad Sunday weather, the Florida Atlantic University Owls took to the field Saturday hosting a doubleheader with Conference USA member Charlotte. The Owls downed the 49ers in the first game by the score of 4-0 and were one-out away from a doubleheader sweep but saw Charlotte take the nine-inning game 3-2.
While she was holding the 49ers at bay, the offense went to work scoring one run, a homer by Oliva Peterson, in the fifth inning and scored three more runs in the sixth for the game's 4-0 final.
GAME ONE
Gabby Sacco took the circle and continued her march through the month of March by holding Charlotte to just two hits and no runs. Sacco is 10-2 on the season and holds a 1.08 ERA and a 0.00 C-USA ERA. She has allowed just two runs, both earned, in 34 innings of March work.While she was holding the 49ers at bay, the offense went to work scoring one run, a homer by Oliva Peterson, in the fifth inning and scored three more runs in the sixth for the game's 4-0 final.
NOTES/NOTABLE
- Peterson's homer was her third and is team-leading
- Two players, Cammeo Presutti and Peterson, had a multi-hit day. Presutti, who is hitting .469 [23-for-49] in the month of March, was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Peterson was 2-for-3 with the game winning hit/RBI and actually drove in three of the team's four runs
GAME TWO
The second game of the day opened with Sacco returning to the circle for the first two innings, both scoreless and she allowed just one hit. Ainsley Lambert came into the game in the third and held Charlotte scoreless over the next four innings and was just one out away from securing the win. Lambert got two quick outs in the top of the seventh, both foul outs. The 49ers then scored two runs on four-two-out singles to even the score at 2-2. The game moved into extra innings and the two teams were scoreless through the eighth. Charlotte led off the ninth with a solo homer to left and then kept the Owls from scoring in the bottom of the inning for the 3-2 win.NOTES/NOTABLE
- Three pitchers were used, Sacco, Lambert, who took the loss falling to 3-3 on the year, and Lynn Gardner, who secured the final two outs of the game
- In total, seven Owls accounted for the team's seven hits
- Freshman Jesiana Mora had her sixth double of the year
