BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University moved to 7-10 on the year with a 6-1 victory over a visiting VCU, completing Sunday's action and their five-match spring break slate with a 4-1 record.
The Owls moved into singles play with a 1-0 lead. VCU forfeited court six due to injuries, giving FAU the confidence that they would need for just two more wins to clinch the play-out match.
Katerina Filip, who was on the court for nearly four hours on Saturday, wasted no time with a 6-0, 6-1 win on court three.
Millie-Mae Matthews followed with a 6-3-6-3 court five win to give FAU the victory. The remaining three matches played to their conclusion with
Victoria Gomez O'Hayon winning in three, and
Lexi Silna doing so in two at 7-6 (8-6), 7-5.
