No. 13 Sandy Owls set for four nationally-ranked matchups at the Battle for LA

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 13-ranked Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team (7-1) heads west this weekend as the Sandy Owls will compete against their toughest competition of the season thus far with four nationally-ranked matchups at the Battle for LA on Saturday, March 11 and Sunday, March 12 at Mapes Beach.
Along with the Sandy Owls, the tournament field features No. 16 Long Beach (2-6), No. 8 LMU (4-0), No. 7 Stanford (9-3), and host No. 3 UCLA (9-1).
The Sandy Owls will open play on Saturday, March 11 against No. 8 LMU for a 1 p.m. ET first serve. LMU holds a 1-0 all-time lead against the Sandy Owls, winning a 3-0 battle on May 6 last season during the NCAA South Regionals. Florida Atlantic will then close out play on the opening day of the Battle for LA with a 3 p.m. ET first serve against No. 7 Stanford. The Sandy Owls hold a perfect 2-0 record against Stanford, including Florida Atlantic's 3-0 win against the Cardinal during the first round of the NCAA South Regionals last season on May 4.
Florida Atlantic will resume play for day two on Sunday, taking on No. 16 Long Beach at 3 p.m. ET. Sunday's matchup will mark the first ever meeting between FAU and Long Beach. The Sandy Owls will then cap off the weekend with a 5 p.m. ET battle against host and No. 3-ranked UCLA. The Bruins hold a 5-0 all-time record over FAU, which includes a 3-0 victory for UCLA on March 18 during the March to May Tournament last year.
