2/19/2023 1:23:00 AM | Softball
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Day two of the FGCU Classic was a different story for the Florida Atlantic University Owls, who picked up a 4-2 win over Lipscomb and a 6-4 victory in the tournament's nightcap versus Boston College.
Sommer Baker was hit by a pitch to lead off to top half of the inning. Baker moved to second on a Cammeo Presutti single. The duo then advanced on Mora's second extra base hit of the night, an RBI double. Sara Berthiaume hit a single to right scoring both Presutti and Mora, but the Owls were not done. Becca Jones would single in the game's fourth and final run and it would take an unusual double play to halt the Owls' threat.
Gabby Sacco, who drew the start, saw her efforts aided with a double play in the bottom half of the fifth inning, getting the Owls out of a jam, and then closed out the game for the win.
Boston College strung together three hits in the sixth to grab their first lead of the game at 4-3, but FAU answered by putting the ball in play scoring three runs on one hit in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead at 6-4. FAU sent starter Lynn Gardner back to the circle in the seventh to close out the game.
