BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 13 Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team (6-1) is set for their second and final game of the three-day Field of 68 Tip Off, hosting Charleston (3-3) on Saturday at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. The game will get underway at 6 p.m. and will be aired on ESPNU.
The Owls will look to continue their hot offensive stretch and win their fifth game in nine days.
Florida Atlantic's 2023-24 season is sponsored by Phil Smith Kia/Phil Smith Acura.
The Owls are coming off a second straight wire-to-wire blowout victory, snapping the win streak of a previously undefeated Liberty team (6-1) by a score of 83-58. 50% was the magic number of the game, with FAU shooting 50% from three-point range and 55% from the field. Junior guard
Alijah Martin led the way with his second 20-point performance of the season and put forth a 9-13 shooting night along with junior forward Vlad Goldin, who dropped 18 points on 7-9 shooting and a team-high seven rebounds.
- Goldin is now leading the nation in field goal percentage (73.6%) on almost eight shots per game. The junior forward is off to an electric start to the season, also leading the team in points per game (15.1), rebounds (6.4) and blocks (2.1)
- Martin is second on the team in scoring at 13.6 points per game
- When Florida Atlantic wins, they win big. The Owls are averaging 88.2 points in their six victories, have held a lead at halftime in all seven games and have four games in which they have never trailed. Their average scoring margin of victory at 21.1 would rank ninth in the nation
- The Owls have held their last two opponents to under 40% shooting
- Another advantage in rebounding (39-29) against Liberty moves the team to 34-0 in the last two seasons when they win the board battle.
Up next for Florida Atlantic is a return to the world-famous Madison Square Garden, the very same floor in which FAU captured the 2023 NCAA Tournament's East Regional title and clinched a berth in the Final Four. The Owls will take on No. 24 Illinois (5-1) in the opening game of the Jimmy V. Classic on Tuesday, Dec. 5. Tip-off will be at 6:30 p.m. EST.
