Gardner & Berthiaume Earn Preseason All-C-USA Honors

DALLAS – On Thursday, Conference USA announced its preseason awards and all-conference teams for the upcoming 2023 softball season. A pair of student-athletes from the Florida Atlantic University softball team earned preseason All-C-USA honors in Lynn Gardner & Sara Berthiaume. Both earned a spot on the Preseason All-Conference USA team after capping off last season with All-C-USA recognition.
"Lynn immediately makes us competitive on the field knowing we have a fifth-year senior in the circle," Clark said. "Her calmness and presence on the mound will keep us in a lot of games this season. She is locked in and ready for a big year."
Gardner was the undisputed ace and leader in the circle for the Owls last season. She led the team in nearly every pitching category, by leading in wins (18) ERA (2.73) innings pitched (179.1) strikeouts (123) complete games (22) and shutouts (9). Gardner was a true workhorse and only got pulled four times in 26 starts. Her nine complete games ranked 10th in the nation, and Gardner was a Second Team All-C-USA honoree a season ago.

Berthiaume & Gardner By the Numbers
Berthiaume put up big numbers as the left fielder for Florida Atlantic in 2022 and led the team in nearly every offensive category. She was the team leader in batting average (.384) RBI (34) runs (33) doubles (10) triples (7) slugging percentage (.604%) and on-base percentage (.429), while tying for the team lead in home runs (4). Berthiaume earned First Team All-C-USA honors last season and is currently third all-time in FAU history in slugging percentage (.521) and sixth in school history in batting average (.331).Gardner was the undisputed ace and leader in the circle for the Owls last season. Softball Season Coming Fast
The Owls' season is just two weeks away, as FAU will open the 2023 campaign and the Jordan Clark era against Mississippi State on Feb. 9. The Owls will host the Paradise Classic from Feb. 9-Feb. 12, which is the first of three home tournaments early in the season.Follow FAU on Social Media
