WEST POINT, N.Y. – Florida Atlantic University men's soccer was held off the scoreboard for a second consecutive match on Wednesday night when they fell 2-0 to Army. The defeat drops the Owls to 1-2-1 on the season.
The Owls controlled possession early in the first half but could not manage a shot on target. The Black Knights would test FAU's newcomer goalkeeper
Axel Hofmann in the 29th minute but the graduate senior was up to the task with a brilliant toe save.
After stopping four shots in the first half, Hofmann was finally beaten for the opener just one minute into the second half. Army's Nick Atkinson got a head on a free kick and redirected it into the far corner leaving no chance for the Owls' German goalkeeper.
The Black Knights all but put the game on ice with another goal in 74th minute. The Owls managed two shots on target in the second half with the best chance coming when
Andreas Raisanen was denied in the 64th minute.
FAU will now head to Marist University in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Saturday night (7 pm) for one final test before AAC play begins on September 16 at home against USF.
