BOCA RATON, Fla. – Thursday's practice for Florida Atlantic University's football team continued like every practice before it, heavily focused on getting the players better through consistent coaching and demanding consistency. One thing that remains consistent on the practice schedule is the concentration on teaching.
Through the first eight practices, the players have spoken about this coaching staff's ability to teach, break the game down, explain and then visually see what was taught play out on the practice fields.
For the first time this camp, the Owls worked overtime situations, despite not playing an overtime game since November 21, 2015, when every FAU player was either in high school or middle school. That game versus the University of Florida, still haunts former Owls, who fell 20-14 that Saturday afternoon in the Swamp, due to a call that should have been made but was never called. This group of 2022, like the teams before them, will review, teach, practice and be prepared should that scenario arise.

SOMETHING NEW
When the Owls' defense steps off the sideline to take the field, the 11 players get down in a stance and wait for direction from defensive coordinator Todd Orlando. This is all done in an effort to reinforce an attack mentality or to take the field with urgency.
PLAY OF THE DAY
ON THE FIELD
The Overtime
On second down, quarterback N'Kosi Perry let the play develop and then hit receiver LaJohntay Wester to open the drill
The defense held, forcing a field goal on the next opportunity
The defense, who was upbeat and positive throughout practice, made another stop, which was setup by inside linebacker Justice Cross filling the gap to prevent the second down scoring attempt. The offense responded with Platt carrying it into the endzone
Perry hit newcomer Carter Boatwright for a two-point conversion, and Ja'Marcus Johnson followed that up with an interception.
SEASON OPENER
FAU will open the 2022 season on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022, versus Charlotte at FAU Stadium. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. and will be televised on CBSSN and will air locally on Sports640 AM South Florida.
