LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the first time in program history, Florida Atlantic University Volleyball was recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and the United States Marine Corps with the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award, the organization announced on Monday.
"We are so proud of our girls for achieving this special award," commented head volleyball coach
Fernanda Nelson. "They have worked very hard in the classroom, and they deserve it. We are so thankful to have a team culture of student-athletes who want to be the best on and off the court."
The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale. As a team, the Owls posted a 3.50 cumulative GPA for the 2021-22 academic year.
The Owls were one of eight from Conference USA and one of five Division I women's teams from the state of Florida to earn the award.
