BOCA RATON, Fla.
– Kirsten Hobson of the Florida Atlantic University swimming & diving team has been named to the Conference USA Spirit of Service award.
The award honors student-athletes with significant community service endeavors, good academic standing and participation in their sport.
Hobson, a junior for FAU, holds a 3.67 GPA in biological sciences. She is the FAU SAAC Community Service Chair, creating, promoting and volunteering in many events throughout the academic year.
She has participated in numerous beach cleanups, FAU campus cleanups, the Project Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive and has volunteered with Boca Helping Hands.
The South Africa native has also found and partnered with a local dog shelter at the Big Dog Ranch and hosted volunteer-based pet sitting events there.
Hobson Is a C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, and she has made the FAU Academic Honor Roll every semester she has been in Boca Raton.
In the pool, Hobson had the fastest 1,000 free time (10:20.18) at FAU this season, as well as the second-fastest 1,650 free time (17:11.13). Over the course of her junior campaign, Hobson achieved 17 top-10 finishes.
The Conference USA Spirit of Service Award is presented three times throughout the academic year, with this round of honorees representing track & field, swimming & diving and basketball.
