BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University baseball team bounced back on Sunday with a 13-6 victory over UAB in the series finale. The Owls improved to 7-5 in Conference USA play.

"I'm proud of the guys. The weekend didn't go the way we wanted but to come out and play the way we did was really good. It showed a little guts, a little fortitude. Burnham was exceptional. We've had to bring him along slowly and he responded brilliantly today."

THE BEGINNING

The Owls blitzed UAB starter Brooks Walton for four runs before an out was recorded in the bottom of the first. Gabriel Rincones, Jr. lined an RBI double off the wall with one on and two batters later Dylan Goldstein launched a three-run homer just inside the right field foul pole. Walton's day was over just like that.

THE TURNING POINT

It was 6-1 after four innings when the home side broke it wide open with a five-run fourth. A single from Rincones, Jr. and a double from Nolan Schanuel accounted for three of the runs as the Owls sent 10 men to the plate in the inning.

THE FINISH

UAB chipped away and, at one point, trimmed a 12-1 deficit to 12-6. The Owls got one back in the eighth though and Sam Drumheller finished off the final 2.1 without allowing a hit or run.

THE ARMS

Tyler Burnham earned his second win of the season with five solid innings
Burnham conceded two hits and a run in the second inning before retiring 10 of the next 12 hitters
Jacob Josey and Drumheller combined for the final four frames

THE BATS

The Owls' three, four, and five hitters were a combined 7-for-14 with three homers and 10 RBI
Rincones, Jr. was 3-for-4 with five RBI alone. He's now up to 12 home runs and 50 driven in for the season.
Schanuel hit his 11th homer of the season to keep pace with his teammate and posted a final line of 3-for-5 with two RBI
The sophomore pair went deep back-to-back in the second inning
Goldstein hit his ninth long ball of the season and drove in his 31st-33rd runs

WHAT'S NEXT

The Owls travel to Coral Gables on Tuesday for a third midweek meeting with Miami. They return home on Thursday to begin a three-game series against Western Kentucky.
