Owls Sweep Day Two of FAU Beach Burrow Bash

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 12 Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team (6-2, 2-0 in Conference USA) extended their winning streak to five after earning two sweeps on Saturday. On the second day of the FAU Beach Burrow Bash, the Owls swept both UNCW (3-3) and Palm Beach Atlantic (7-3), 5-0. The Owls are now a perfect 4-0 at home.

"I'm so proud of the team this weekend. I feel as though each and every one of our 19 players were a part of the success," said head coach Capri Grotowski. "Now we have some hard work to put in this week so we can do the same moving forward! Go Owls!!"

Match 1 vs. UNCW, 5-0 (FAU)
Action on court four wrapped up first, as Jillienne Cangelosi and Christine Jarman earned a straight-set win, 21-14, 21-15. UNCW forced a third set on court five, but Mica Allison and Logan Mignerey pulled out the 15-10 win to clinch the second dual point for FAU. Erica Brok and Mackenzie Morris wrapped things up quickly on court one for the Owls' third point of the match (21-13, 21-16). On court three, the match finished up in straight sets courtesy of a dominating 21-6 first-set by Ellie Austin and Julie Honzovicova. Set two was much closer, but the duo elevated ahead for the 22-20 set-two win. Alivia Orvieto and Marketa Svozilova captured their first win as a pair, registering a 21-6, 22-20 feat on court two. FAU swept the Seahawks, 5-0.

Match 2 vs. Palm Beach Atlantic, 5-0 (FAU)
Allison and Mignerey wrapped up the match on court five in two sets, 21-17, 21-15. The pair finished the weekend 3-0. A big block by Honzovicova helped the freshman and Austin deliver a straight-set win on court three in a 21-16, 21-13 match. Maylin Bouffard and Jarman won two hard-fought sets to secure the Owls' third dual point of the match. The pair pulled out the 25-23 second-set victory. Svozilova and Courtney Moon recorded 21-14 wins in both sets to tally the fourth point. The court one match was the game of the day. In set one, Brok and Morris were down by as many as four points, but earned the 21-19 win. PBA would not go away, coming back to win set two, 21-17, to force a third. The beginning of the third set was point-for-point, but Brok and Morris began to pull away at the end to produce a 15-12 set three win to clinch the Owls' third sweep of the weekend.
