GULF SHORES, Ala. â The Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team (7-5) were defeated in a pair of matches on the opening day of the March to May. FAU lost to No. 1 UCLA, 3-0, followed by a 3-2 decision in No. 15 South Carolina's favor. The team endured hours of lightening delays in the morning, moving all matches to the afternoon. FAU's two matches were then played to decisions.

Match 1 vs. No. 1 UCLA (L, 3-0)
With both teams playing until the match was clinched, FAU dropped the contest, 3-0, but courts one, three and five forced a third set against the No. 1 team in the country. Court four was clinched first, as
Ellie Austin and
Mica Allison fell, 21-14, 21-17 in the first match playing as a pair this season. Also playing as a pair for the first time during the regular season,
Marketa Svozilova and
Julie Honzovicova fell, 21-17, 21-17 on court two.
Erica Brok and
Mackenzie Morris dropped the first set on court one, 21-18, but came back to win the second, 22-20. The pair lost the third set, 15-13, as the Bruins clinched their third dual point. During that time,
Courtney Moon and
Abby Jackson on court three and
Jillienne Cangelosi and
Christine Jarman on court five were in their third sets.

The Gamecocks earned the first point of the match in a straight-set decision (21-15, 21-9) over Jackson and Moon. Brok and Morris then tied the match up at 1-1 following a straight set 21-17, 21-15 win on court one. FAU went up 2-1 following a straight set decision by Cangelosi and Jarman on court five, but shortly after, South Carolina tied things up with a court four win. This left things up to court two, in which Honzovicova and Svozilova dropped a close match, 21-13, 15-21, 15-13 in three sets.
