BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic women's basketball (5-1) will seek its fifth straight win on Tuesday as the Owls host Florida National (3-4) for a 7 p.m. tip inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
The Owls are in their second year under head coach
Jennifer Sullivan, who has led FAU to a 10-26 overall record over her two seasons in Boca Raton. The Owls enter Tuesday's contest on a four-game winning streak after earning a 67-59 win over Kennesaw State, matching the program's best start since the 2015-16 season.
The Owls are paced by
Janeta Rozentale,
Aniya Hubbard, and
Alexa Zaph, who are averaging 12.2, 11.3, and 10.0 points per game, respectively, this season. Rozentale also leads the Owls in rebounds, averaging 8.5 per game, assists, dishing out 2.33 per game, steals, averaging 1.5 per contest, and blocks, denying 1.16 shots per game this season. After earning her fourth double-double this past Friday, Rozentale is currently the C-USA leader in double-doubles this season with four over the Owls' six contests so far in 2022-23. Janeta also leads C-USA in offensive rebounds per game with 4.2 per contest, third in total rebounds per game with 8.5 per game, and fourth in blocks per game with 1.17 per outing this season.
As a team, the Owls lead C-USA in field goal percentage defense (.346), 3-point percentage defense (.222), and defensive rebounds per game (31.2). FAU ranks second in the league in scoring defense (56.3), rebounds per game (45.17), offensive rebounds per game (14.0), and fewest fouls per game (16.0).
Florida National enters this week's midweek matchup with a 3-4 record and are just coming off the Conquistadors' home-opening 81-66 win over Trinity Baptist College. The Conquistadors are in their fourth season under head coach Yahveh Silva, who has collected a 24-29 record during his time in Hialeah.
The Conquistadors are led by Natalie Larranaga and Kaylee Llanos, averaging 18 and 17.3 points per game, respectively. Larranaga is shooting a team-best 52.9 percent from the floor and 47.1 percent from 3-point range. She also leads the Conquistadors in steals per game, snagging 2.8 per contest. Janelisse Marty leads Florida National in rebounds, averaging 5.7 per game, and has also dished out a team-best 3.2 assists per contest. Louise Pilley is Florida National's blocking leader, tallying 0.4 blocks per game this season.
Tuesday marks the first ever meeting between the Owls and the Conquistadors.
The Owls will close out their six-game homestand next week as FAU opens up C-USA play against rival FIU on Tuesday, Dec. 13. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
