BOCA RATON, Fla. – In his first year as an Owl, Christopher Jones of the Florida Atlantic University men's cross country team has been named to the 2022 Conference USA Cross Country All-Academic Team.
Â
The Exercise Science and Health Promotion major Jones has been a model student in the classroom during the fall 2022 semester, currently holding a 3.97 GPA.
Â
Jones made his mark on the cross country course as well, highlighted by a sixth place finish out of 64 runners at the Florida Atlantic Invitational on Sept. 30. Running in the 7K, he recorded a time of 24:18.9. Overall, Jones was the top male finisher for the Owls in three of the five races he participated in.
Â
During the 2022 season, Jones showed steady improvement through each race, culminating in a personal best 34:53.7 in a 10K run at the NCAA South Regionals. The time was good for sixth best in FAU history. The race could not have occurred on a better day for Jones, with it being held on Veteran's Day. Jones served in the United States Air Force prior to coming to FAU.
Â
"I am extremely happy for Chris to receive this honor," said head coachÂ
Alex Smolka. "He is a great example of what dedication, perseverance, and hard work can accomplish. He is also a great reminder that it's never too late to pursue your dreams!" Â
Â
With the cross country season concluded for Jones and the rest of the men, they are set to cheer on the women's track & field team when they begin their indoor season in January.
