BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team (2-3) faced the nation's best, Friday afternoon, pitting their skills against ITA Kickoff Weekend host Texas. The Longhorns came away with the 4-0 win.

Texas opened the day by securing the doubles point. The two teams moved into singles with Texas securing the best of seven match in short order. However, the story of the day was not the matches that scored, but the matches that were unfinished on courts two through four.

Katerina Filip's match, versus the nation's 40th ranked player, prematurely ended with the first set tied at six each (Texas up 2-0 in the set tiebreaker). FAU freshmen Lexi Silna and Greta Schieroni fell in their first sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-4, respectively. Both were less than three games into their second set.

Next Up

Saturday, the Owls will face Rice at 3 p.m. at the Texas Tennis Center. The match will be the second Conference USA opponent of the young season. The Owls previously defeated Middle Tennessee. FAU is scheduled to host its first home match of 2022 on Friday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. The match will be played at the newly minted Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Complex.
