Owls Record Two Wins to Open the 2022 Season

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team traveled to Fort Myers, Florida for a three-team dual match tournament at Florida Gulf Coast, where FAU downed Middle Tennessee 6-1, on Saturday afternoon and Georgia State 4-1, on Saturday evening.

The first match saw the Owls capture the doubles point with wins on courts No. 2 and 3. Singles play saw FAU win courts 1-3 in straight sets, while it took three sets to determine the winners on courts 4-6.

The second match, versus Georgia State, was originally scheduled for Sunday; however, it was moved to Saturday, due to expected bad weather.

Once again, FAU captured the doubles point and needed just three singles matches to secure the win. The upper classman, Martina Kudelova and Katerina Filip, ended the day on a perfect note, each capturing both matches and wins proved the skill level of the underclassmen. Millie-Mae Matthews had back-to-back wins on the day, while Greta Schironi and Lexi Silna each recorded a win and were leading in match two, prior to the match being clinched.

"I am extremely please with our team's performance, today," said Gonzalez. "Playing a double header is never an easy task, but we played tough and were able to find a way to win both matches. Today was 100% team effort. We will continue to build from these wins and prepare for Monday's tough versus Minnesota."
