BOCA RATON, Fla. – On Friday, Florida Atlantic rising junior men's golfer
Alex Maguire helped Ireland take home the title at the R&A Men's Home Internationals.

The round-robin tournament, held at Hankley Common in England, features the four home nations of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Friday's conclusion of the 92nd playing of the event saw Ireland halve the final match with defending champions, England, coming all the way back from a morning deficit with a 6 1/2 to 3 1/2 winning singles score in the afternoon.

Over the course of the event, Ireland was 2-1-0, with a 27-18 score, finishing a 1/2-point better than runner-up Scotland. Maguire was 3-2-1 in his matches, helping his home country hoist the trophy for the first time since 2017.

"It's been such a great week, the lads on the team are just a great bunch and have made my week a lot better by making me feel welcome in my first men's international start," said Maguire. "It's been such a great experience playing all matches and being up against it the whole way. Being part of a team, especially a winning one, is just something special. I'm really looking forward to a good year with FAU and hopefully make many more of these memories in the states."

The first match of the fall for Maguire and the Owls begins a week from today, Friday, Sept. 24, at the two-day William H. Tucker Intercollegiate. The tournament will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on the UNM Championship Course.
