Super Senior John Mitchell Named to Watch List

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University super senior John Mitchell has been named to the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl "Preseason Big Board", as announced by NFLPA on Friday.
Mitchell joined the Owls in 2016, a season that he tallied six receptions, one a touchdown, in 12 games played. His sophomore campaigned was hampered by injury and 2018 saw the Tallahassee native see action in seven contests and he matched his first season's efforts with six receptions. In 2019, Mitchell was a primary target for the Owls, using his height and physicality to his advantage in 14 games while leading FAU to a Conference USA title and bowl victory. He had 38 catches and five scores that season. Ready to build the resume under the direction of his third coach in 2020, Mitchell, a biological science graduate, suffered a season-ending injury days before the season opener.
He has returned in 2021, with a degree in hand, a master's degree within his grasp, and goals set for making an NFL roster.

This January, the NFL Players Association will produce the 10th annual NFLPA Collegiate Bowl game at the historic Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California. Since 2011, the NFLPA Bowl has provided senior NFL prospects with an exceptional platform to showcase their talents to all 32 NFL teams as well as a one-of-a-kind experience that educates participants about the business of football. In the past two years alone, 87 NFLPA Bowl participants have been invited to the NFL Combine and 58 were drafted by NFL clubs.
The following day, Saturday, Sept. 11, Schnellenberger will be honored once more during the Owls' game versus Georgia Southern. The two teams will play on Howard Schnellenberger Field beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Honoring Coach
FAU is working with the Schnellenberger family to honor its leader with a Celebration of Life "game-atmosphere event" on Friday, Sept. 10. All former Schnellenberger players (Dolphins, Miami, Louisville, Oklahoma and FAU) are invited to a reception at 6 p.m. and simultaneously the general public will begin the celebration within FAU Stadium, which houses Howard Schnellenberger Field. The evening will begin with a collection of photos, throughout his career, as well as videos submitted by former players scattered across the country. At 7:30 p.m., selected speakers will take to the stage to honor the man who changed the lives of thousands. All Sept. 10 festivities are free and open to the general public.The following day, Saturday, Sept. 11, Schnellenberger will be honored once more during the Owls' game versus Georgia Southern. 2021 Season
