Back-to-Back Academic Excellence for Women’s Tennis
7/13/2021 3:26:00 PM | General, Women's Tennis
BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team has received its second ITA Academic Award recognition in as many years, with both seasons coming under the direction of head coach Caroline Wheelen.
Four Owls earned individual scholar-athlete recognition and not surprisingly they were the same Owls who helped to drive the FAU to the program's highest national rank of No. 52 in 2021. Sophomore Radka Buzkova, who finished the season 7-2; sophomore transfer Katerina Filip, who along with Buzkova was named to the C-USA All-Conference team; senior graduate Natalie Kallmunzerova; and junior May Kimhi were the honorees.
According to the ITA, student-athletes continue to exceed expectations in the classroom and on the court. In 2021, 1,505 Division I women student-athletes were named as ITA Scholar-Athletes and 210 women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.

Wheelen's Wisdom
"Being a student-athlete is not easy," said Caroline Wheelen, FAU's head coach. "The demand on their time is great. I have major respect to the team and the four individuals who were able to achieve the greatest success, in the classroom. It shows their ability to prioritize and stay consistent with their class work and the pride they have for themselves and FAU."Four Owls earned individual scholar-athlete recognition and not surprisingly they were the same Owls who helped to drive the FAU to the program's highest national rank of No. 52 in 2021.
