BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University softball (9-26, 4-8 Conference USA) will host the final home weekend series of 2021 versus Middle Tennessee (21-18, 7-5 C-USA), and the weekend also will include honoring the seniors for both the 2020 and the 2021 seasons.
Series History
The Owls hold the series at 31-11. The last meeting, the Owls downed Middle Tennessee 8-6, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Despite the overwhelming series record, MT has won the last six of 10 matchups. FAU averages 4.45 runs versus MT all-time.
- Kara Lokeinsky has appeared in 13 games, all in relief. The senior has been near perfect in her last six outings, surrendering just four runs, all of which were in the first Marshall contest. She has held opponents to 10 hits, four of which were in the Marshall outing, through 13.1 innings of work in that span
- Maya Amm moved into the lineup's No. 4 spot for the last 10 games. She is hitting .310 in that role and was hitting .242 previously. More impressively, Amm was splitting time between shortstop and second base, but in recent weeks she has been a defensive juggernaut at second base. She has committed just two errors in 46 chances in her last 10 games
- Senior catcher Kaitlyn Burke is more than just a backstop. She leads the squad with five home runs and has a team-high 15 RBI
- Building the right lineup – more than any other season FAU has looked for the right combination and has sought the best hitters for the lineup. In total, 22 Owls have made a plate appearance. One player who has made the best of each opportunity is freshman Jalynn Ford. She has 16 plate appearances and is batting .375 with six hits, including a double, two home runs and eight RBI. More impressively, both homers have been pinch hits. The first was a two-run shot versus Pitt in the seventh. The second was a seventh inning three-run homer at Marshall to pull FAU within one at 6-5. Her double was a RBI double in the fourth
- The Owls have stolen 29 bases and have been caught just six times. Kaitlyn Cunningham leads the way with five steals in seven attemptsÂ
- Lynn Gardner holds a 4.10 ERA and a record of 5-12. She has appeared in 24 games including each game last weekend. She accounts for 56% of the team's wins
- The Owls are ranked No. 10 nationally with 0.51 doubles per game and No. 34 with 0.29 triples per game
- Gardner is No. 47 in saves, with two
- Cunningham is No. 7 with five triples and No. 15 in triples per game at 0.15
- Sara Berthiaume is No. 86 in triples per game with 0.11
- 2020 - Christina Deibel, Danielle Beiberle, Sami Williams
- 2021 - Kaitlyn Burke, Fayth Davis, Gretchen Ebert, Kara LokeinskyÂ
