BOCA RATON, Fla. – Capri Grotowski had two reasons to celebrate this past Friday, as she hit the 100-win mark as Florida Atlantic University's beach volleyball coach on her birthday. Â
Grotowski's 100
th win was hard-fought, as the 13th-ranked Owls (16-7) defeated UNF 3-2 thanks to a third-set victory from
Savannah Pesante and
Maylin Bouffard on Court Four. With FAU's win over Coastal Carolina the following day, its fourth straight, Grotowski's career record improved to 101-71.Â
"It seems to have come so fast…I swear I just started a few years ago," Grotowski said. "But accomplishing 100 wins in my seventh season feels pretty good, not to mention it's on my birthday! I could not be at a better place, with better people, with better support. I truly am blessed in so many ways; this just adds some icing on the cake. Looking forward to the next 100 wins!"
Grotowski has served as FAU's coach since the 2015 season, the program's second. She's taken the Owls to the CCSA Championships every year from 2016-2019, going as far as the Semifinals in 2017.
The Grotowski-led Owls are 27-8 over their last two seasons, their best stretch in program history. Grotowski also helped FAU reach a No. 11 AVCA ranking this season, its best ever.
Grotowski can extend her career win total to 103 this Saturday, when the Owls battle No. 17 Stetson and No. 15 FIU in Deland.Â
