MIAMI  – The Florida Atlantic University track & field team opened up the first of two weekends at the Hurricane Invitational hosted by the University of Miami on Friday night.
Madlen Kappeler and
Lauren Macon etched their way into the program's top 10 in the 3000 meter run, while
Anaiis Scheeres, C-USA Championships silver medalist, took part in the high jump. Today's meet marked the first time in almost two years the team has competed in an outdoor track & field meet.
Additionally, the men's cross country team raced the 5000 meters at the Black & Gold Invitational hosted by UCF.

- Scheeres opened up the outdoor slate with fifth place in the high jump with a final result of 1.56m
- Kappeler led the Owls in the 3000 meters to finish in second place. Her time of 10:17.99 is the fourth fastest time in school history
- Macon followed in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:35.66 for fifth place and the seventh fastest mark in school history
- Paige Saiz (10:56.05), Morgan Sharp (11:01.28) and Alexis Hill (11:20.93) ran the 3000 meters in seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively
- In Orlando, the men's team was led by Sean Barone, who registered third in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:48.55
- Preston Dunn (16:40.89), Jericho Cooey (16:42.54) and Rory Carmody (17:00.92) rounded out the 5000 meters in sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively

FAU will wrap up the first part of the Hurricane Invitational tomorrow with the first FAU event beginning at noon.
