Owls Sweep Two Events; Peckmann Breaks Record

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Florida Atlantic University men's swimming & diving team has ended the first night of the 2021 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Swimming & Diving in second place with 291 points. FAU earned two sweeps, while Alec Peckmann broke a nine-year school record in the 200 IM with a gold medal time of 1:48.10.

"Despite a tulmutuous year, our men's team fought hard in the pool and performed some great racing during their first day of this 2021 championship," said head coach Lara Preacco. "This brought them lifetime bests, podiums and an FAU school record. What a great first day. Owl power!"

Quick Hits
- The divers helped the Owls get rolling off to a hot start, sweeping in the 3m. Logan Downey led the way with the gold medal (320.00), Michael Cannatelli followed with the silver (249.60) and Charlie Greene rounded out with the bronze (224.00)
- The domination continued, as the Owls also swept in the 500 free. Josh Fountain won the gold (4:31.62), Will Smith logged the silver (4:33.65) and Clay Riemenschneider finished with the bronze (4:35.01)
- Cameron Speed finished in 10th in the 500 free with a time of (4:41.80) in his first meet as an Owl
- Peckmann didn't waste any time making an impact for the Owls, tallying the gold medal in the 200 IM off a school record time of 1:48.10. The junior broke the record previously held by Csaba Pek
- Kyle Douglas registered eighth in the 200 IM (1:52.62)
- Peter Tanner, Jr. tied for fourth in the 50 free with a lifetime best time of 20.61. Jackson Kirk and Will Henderson tied for eighth with personal best times of 21.12
- The 800 free relay team of Peckmann, Riemenschneider, Speed and Fountain ended the night with a silver medal (6:51.00)
