Owls to Host "Strike Out Cancer" Tournament

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University softball team will play host to the FAU Strike Out Cancer Tournament. The tournament participants are FAU, Iowa State, Missouri and Ole Miss. The Owls have a history with each team in the tournament and will look to enrich the tradition this weekend.

Last Weekend
The Owls got off to a fast start to open 2021 with back-to-back doubles followed by a two RBI single, but would end the FIU tournament with a 1-3 record. The tournament was an opportunity to see everyone who was available to play take the field at some point. Depth was evident as was the ability to score runs. The Owls hit .297 and averaged 4.9 runs per game.

Owls' Weekend in Preview
- Series History Ole Miss (4-0, FAU leads)
- FAU holds a 4-0 mark against Ole Miss. The largest margin of victory is 3-0 and the smallest is 5-4 win in 1998 Iowa State (6-1, FAU leads)
- The Owls lead the series 6-1 with the lone loss coming in 1997, just the third year of the Owls program. The largest margin of victory was a 6-1 win in 2013 and the smallest was a 2-1 win in 2001 Missouri (3-0, Missouri leads)
- A late addition to this week's tournament, Missouri holds a 3-0 all-time mark versus the Owls. FAU last fell to Mizzou 8-0 in 1998
- Kaitlyn Burke is No. 7 with a .500 batting average and the senior got on base 55% of the time and stands at No. 10. Her five hits place her No. 3 among league leaders
- Sara Berthiaume and Riley Ennis are No.'s 8 and 9, respectively with slugging percentages of .727 and .700
- Freshman Kaitlyn Cunningham scored four runs in her first collegiate tournament which lists her No. 2 among C-USA leaders
- Riley Ennis and Burke drove in three runs during the weekend and are tied at No. 4 among C-USA teams. Ennis is also tied for the top spot with one homer
- Berthiaume sits atop the league with two doubles in the young season and is tied with teammate Bailey Story at the top of the league with one triple
- Cunningham swiped two bases and leads the league
- In the circle, Kara Lokeinsky's 1.31 ERA is fifth in the league and Lynn Gardner holds a 3.59 ERA for a No. 7 rankÂ

What's Next
The Owls' next weekend will be a three-game series at USF. The two teams are scheduled to play at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27 and a double-header on Sunday, Feb. 28 starting at 2 p.m.Â
