TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team was riding a three-match win streak heading into the weekend. Saturday's match versus Florida A&M, scheduled to be played in Tallahassee, was canceled due to weather and on Sunday, FAU fell to No. 7 Florida State, 4-0.
The Owls (3-2) were defeated in doubles, falling to the nation's 50th-ranked team on court two and also falling on court three. The teams moved into singles play with FSU holding a 1-0 advantage. It would be an uphill task for FAU, who squared off in three of the six courts versus ranked opponents.
Sophomore Katerina Filip was the first to see her match finish with a straight-set loss on court three. May Kimhi would follow in the same manner at No. 6 singles. FSU clinched the match on court one with FSU's Giulia Pairone, ranked No. 27 nationally, defeating FAU's Natalia Boltinskaya, before the Owls' Martina Kudelova, who was winning on court No. 2, could finish. She held a 6-4, 3-0 lead versus Nandini Das, who is ranked No. 92 nationally.
