Women’s Basketball Hosts Saint Leo for Exhibition

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team will play its first game in the Jennifer Sullivan era, as the team takes on Saint Leo for an exhibition on Friday night. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at Abessinio Court at FAU Arena.
FAU will officially open the 2021-22 campaign for the team's regular season-opener, at home against Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m.

About the Owls
- The program approaches a new era under first-year head coach Sullivan
- Coach Sullivan became the sixth head coach of the program, bringing in 16 years of coaching experience after serving on several staffs, including Tennessee, Ohio State and Missouri State, among others
- The team brings back 11 student-athletes from the 2020-21 squad, all of whom have seen time on a collegiate court
- Janeta Rozentale is the team's leading returning scorer after averaging 9.9 points per game and 7.9 rebounds per game
- Alexa Zaph started in all 20 games she appeared in at point guard, leading the way with 2.8 assists per game
- Juliette Gauthier is back after having to sit out last season due to an injury. She averaged 11 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game across a team-high 1,005 minutes played in 2019-20
- The Owls led Conference USA in offensive rebounds (15.1), which was 23rd in the NCAA last season
Owl Updates
- The Owls were picked to finish 10th in C-USA, as voted on by the league's head coaches
- FAU is coming off the 2020-21 season with an 11-11 (8-8 C-USA) record. Those eight conference wins are the most the Owls have achieved in C-USA
- The Owls also won their first C-USA Tournament game, to advance to the quarterfinals last year
- FAU welcomes three first-year members to the squad. Marta Garcia is a transfer from Arizona, Kynadi Kuykendoll is a junior college transfer from Northwest Florida State and Simona Henshaw is a true freshman from London
- Stetson transfer Kimia Carter joined the team last spring and is now eligible to compete
Last Time Out
- FAU dropped a close game to No. 2-seed UTEP, 74-67 in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Championships
- Rozentale led the team with 15 points
- Sofia Galeron logged nine points off three 3-pointers
Scouting Saint Leo
- Saint Leo was picked to finish fourth in the Sunshine State Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll
- The Lions return First Team All-Conference selection Tori Lesko, who averaged 14.0 points and 9.2 rebounds per game last season. Lesko was also named SSC Newcomer of the Year
- Alex Button was an All-SSC Second Team choice after averaged 13.2 points per game in 2020-21
- The team is led by sixth-year head coach Anthony Crocitto with the team coming off a 3-3 mark COVID-shortened season, which ended in a 71-67 loss to Tampa in the SSC Championships semifinals
History Against the Lions
- FAU is 9-1 against Saint Leo in the all-time series
- The Owls played the Lions on a consistent basis from 1984-89
- FAU lost the first matchup in 1984, but went on to win the next nine to currently hold a nine-game winning streak
