FAU Hopes to Build Upon Momentum with a Tough 2021 Schedule

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University women's tennis was enjoying national success as a team and as individuals when the 2020 spring season came to an abrupt halt. Head coach Caroline Wheelen believes her team has the puzzle pieces in place to build upon that success in 2021.
"I'm so grateful that nearly everyone was able to return and that we were able to add a few more highly-ranked individuals to this year's depth as we begin to prepare for one of the more difficult schedules in the program's history," said Wheelen, in the second season of her second stint as the Owls' coach. "Ending the season the way we did a year ago was difficult because we were really starting to build momentum for a record-breaking season. I can see how much of a threat we have become because many schools will no longer schedule us. Historically, we struggled with teams in the top-50, but now we are one of them. They are watching our every move, noticing the stellar recruits, with major success, are joining us."
The Owls have always enjoyed home court advantage with a breeze coming off the Atlantic Ocean that takes a minute to adjust to and have used the weather to their advantage in years' past. This season, with the goal of building national recognition, the team will adjust to seven new facilities before they travel to the Conference USA Championships in late April, which will be held in Denton, Texas.
