ATLANTA – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team has had five former student-athletes named to the Atlantic Sun Conference 2000-09 All-Decade Team, as announced by the league on Friday. Kristoffer Aarskog (2002-04), Josh Garbee (2001-04), Anders Granstad (2002-05), Tim Sobczak (2001) and Bjorn Totland (2002-04) were five of the 28 players selected for this honor.
Kristoffer Aarskog
Aarskog was the Owls' first ASUN Player of the Year, a feat he accomplished during his sophomore season in 2003. A Bergen, Norway product, Aarskog suited up for the Owls from 2002-04. Aarskog holds single-season school records in goals (17), points (40) and shots on goal (72), and sits at third in school history in career points (64) and third in career goals (28). The forward was a four-time ASUN First Team choice and four-time ASUN Offensive Player of the Week. In 2003, Aarskog propelled the Owls to the ASUN Championship final.
Josh Garbee
Garbee suited up for the Owls from 2001-04. The midfielder was a three-time All-ASUN selection, earning First Team following his sophomore and senior season and Second Team after his junior campaign. Garbee, a Brandon, Florida native, is ninth in FAU history in career points (43 points), as well as second in career assists (14) and 12th in career goals (14). Along with guiding the Owls to a second-place regular season finish in 2003, Garbee was named to the ASUN All-Tournament Team in 2003 and 2004.
Anders Granstad
Granstad started at goalkeeper for the Owls from 2002-05. The Oslo, Norway native sits in the program's top-five in career wins, goals against average, saves and keeper minutes. Granstad was a six-time ASUN Defensive Player of the Week, which is tied for first in ASUN history. A four-time ASUN All-Conference selection, Granstad earned a nod to the First Team his senior year, Second Team following his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons, as well as to the All-Freshman Team. His 312 career saves and 12 career shutouts also rank ninth and 13th, respectively in the conference.
Tim Sobczak
Sobczak held it down on the backline during his freshman season as an Owl in 2001. The defender earned ASUN All-Freshman honors and started in all 16 games. Sobczak, a native of Brandon, Florida, played one season in an Owl uniform before finishing up his collegiate playing career at UCF.
Bjorn Totland
Totland was a three-year player on the squad from 2002-04. During his senior season, Totland was named ASUN Player of the Year after setting career highs for goals (13) and points (29), while leading the conference in goals and finishing second in points. The Bergen, Norway native also led FAU to the 2004 ASUN regular season title. The prior year, Totland was an All-Conference Second Team choice. Totland is 11th in career points (38) and sixth in career assists (12) in FAU ranks, while sitting at sixth in single-season assists (7).
All-Decade Team honorees must have competed for at least two years in the decade as an ASUN student-athlete. Former student-athletes who met one of the following criteria were named to the team: three First Team All-Conference selections, four All-Conference selections, multiple Player of the Year honors and ASUN Hall of Famer. Individuals who achieved at least two of the following criteria were also named to the team: Player/Freshman/Defensive Player/Goalkeeper of the Year, three All-Conference selections and two First Team All-Conference selections.
