Football Begins Final Preseason Week Prior to Start of Classes

BOCA RATON, Fla. (Aug. 17, 2020) – Florida Atlantic University's football team returned to the practice fields Monday morning, a day that might have been the most humid of the 2020 camp after enjoying two days of no practice.

Practice began and moved through each session as normal with individual work and special teams work, and then to receivers versus defensive backs in one area while the lines squared off in run-game work on the same field closest to the beach.

As the squad moved into 7-on-7 and team drills, the defense held the number of explosive plays to a minimum. While the defense provided tight coverage, they also took advantage of an offense that struggled to take care of the ball.

Sideline Celebrations

Linebacker Ja'Marquis Johnson, a newcomer, was credited with an interception during 7-on-7
Fellow newcomer Jackson Wenstrom, a tight end, made a leaping catch along the sideline for a gain of 20 yards
Redshirt sophomore Armani-Eli Adams, a safety, stripped the ball following a reception and had a 10-yard return
Junior cornerback Teja Young also had a fumble recovery
Following a break, the offense had one of their first explosive plays of the day when redshirt junior running back Daniel Leconte caught a deep pass for a big gain
Not too long after Leconte's reception, the defense was credited with a sack
The team focus moved into the run game which saw sophomore running back Larry McCammon III put together a strong run, as did redshirt freshman quarterback Javion Posey
