BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University softball team (3-6) is set to host the 14th annual "Strikeout Cancer" tournament this weekend. FAU will play host to Illinois State, LIU Brooklyn, Hofstra and North Florida, while playing two doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday evening.
- FAU has started off the 2020 season with a 3-6 overall record while being 1-3 at home
- After the weekend at the UCF Knights Classic, Lynn Gardner was named Conference USA Co-Pitcher of the Week
- Newcomer, Gardner is leading the team with 23 innings pitched and 20 strikeouts for a 2-1 record.
- After two weeks of play, Jolie Duffner leads the Owls with a .280 batting average, while Kaitlyn Burke and Danielle Bieberle follow with a .250 batting average a piece
- In the circle, Gardner is holding it down for the Owls with a 3.04 ERA, followed by Kara Lokeinshky with two strikeouts and a 3.75 ERA, and Abigail Morgan supporting a 5.02 of her own with nine strikeouts on the year
- The softball program is celebrating its 26th season, all under direction of head coach Joan Joyce, who is seeking her 1,000th career win this year
- Davis (OF) was picked to the C-USA Preseason Team after finishing the year batting .389 (.400 C-USA), which was third best in the conference and best among outfielders in the league. She also tallied 15 doubles and 2 home runs in her redshirt sophomore campaign
- FAU is looking to improve upon its 20-30 (7-17 C-USA) finish in 2019. The Owls missed the conference tournament for the first time
- The team welcomes 12 newcomers, as well as brings back 11 players and four everyday starters

- Kasey Collins and Lindsey Hay both lead Hofstra's batting average with a .286 with an RBI a piece
- Nikki Mullin has seen the most time in the circle, pitching 13.2 innings with a 3.07 ERA. The pitching staff has allowed 20 earned runs so far this year

- The Owls will square off against the Ospreys for the eighth time
- FAU has outscored North Florida 15-8, three of the games scoring no runs for the Ospreys
- The first time these two teams met was on May 1, 2006, which resulted in a 1-0 win for FAU
About the Ospreys
- North Florida went 2-2 at the Trojan Classic and the Osprey Classic earlier this season supporting a record of 4-5
- Last season, the team finished 30-24 overall with its season ending with a 2-8 loss against Lipscomb to finish as the runner-up in the ASUN tournament
- Rebecca Koskey leads the way with .440 batting average, while Kayla McGory follows at .407
- In the circle, the Ospreys are led by Morgan Clausen with a 4.12 ERA, while Alyssa Dyhr has a 3-0 record
Illinois State (Saturday at 4:45 p.m.)
All-time series: 3-2, Illinois State leads
- Saturday will mark the sixth meeting between the two teams
- The Owls lost the first game of the series 2-1 in 2017, then went on a two-game run winning 7-5 and 2-1 later in 2017, but have fallen 3-4 in 2018 and 2-6 in 2019
About the Redbirds
- The Redbirds have started the year 3-7, going 2-3 at the Arizona State Littlewood Classic. Illinois State's most recent victory was against Detroit Mercy in an 11-5 decision
- Illinois State rounded out 2019 with a 18-33 overall record finishing the season with a 2-7 loss against the No.3 seeded UNI in the Missouri Valley conference tournament
- The Redbirds are led by Dayna Kennedy who bats a .400 and Mack Leonard with a .389 batting average while also holding down the circle with a 4.06 ERA
LIU Brooklyn (Saturday at 7 p.m.)

- The Owls and Sharks have played almost year since 2003
- Saturday will mark the 19th meeting between the two teams
- The last time these teams faced off was in 2018, which resulted in a 11-8 win at home
About the Sharks
- The Sharks kicked off the 2020 season at the FGCU Kickoff Classic going 2-3 during the tournament
- LIU started off this season 5-5, with their most recent game being against UC Davis which was decided in a 3-1 win for the Sharks
- Kiana Cisneros leads LIU with a .313 batting average, Victoria Lowe leads the Sharks on the mound with a 2-0 record while pitching 15.2 innings with a 1.38 ERA
- The Owls went 2-3 during the Classic starting with a 4-1 win over Penn State but later fell 0-3 on day two
- Villanova defeated the Owls 5-0 with a no-hitter
- Against Iowa State, the Owls earned an extra inning come-from-behind win for a 6-3 decision on the final day of the tournament to go 6-1 against the Cyclones
- Fayth Davis hit her first home run of the season, as the redshirt junior tied the game against Iowa State and sent it into extras. Ashleigh Jennings scored the winning run off an RBI single from Duffner to make it 3-2 in the Owls favor. Freshman Rachel Tarpley ended the game with the winning run sliding into first base for an RBI single
- UCF went the distance sweeping the Classic by winning all four of their games with a 10-0 (5) win against the Owls to close out the tournament
