Get to Know Tuesday: Arturo Ernand

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team brings back 16 returners and adds 10 newcomers to the 2020-21 squad. Throughout the offseason, we will be getting to know an Owl each week leading up to the first spring game. This week we will learn more about Arturo Ernand, who is approaching his third season in an Owl uniform.
Last season, Ernand played in all 16 matches, while drawing the start in 14 last season. During his sophomore campaign, he tallied one goal against No. 9 Charlotte and an assist in the Owls' 4-3 overtime victory versus Old Dominion. Ernand also took 11 shots on the year.
Q: Why did you decide to stay in South Florida and play/attend school at FAU?
A: Staying close to my family after not being around much throughout high school was a big factor. Choosing FAU was an easy decision as it was made clear to me what the staff was looking to build here and I wanted to play a vital role in seeing that vision come true.
Q: What was your favorite game last season?
A: Hosting Old Dominion in an extra time thriller was by far my favorite game last season. Everything about that game was as if it were a movie and it is an experience I'll forever cherish.
Q: How are you going to help this team build upon the momentum they started last season?
A: Knowing my role and doing it to the best of my abilities.
Q: If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: I'll humbly take my homemade vegan crunch wraps over any meal any day.
Q: Who is a player you idolize and model your game after?
A: Growing up, I idolized Brazilian footballers, such as Robinho and Ronaldinho. These types of players showed us what it meant to enjoy the game and truly entertain fans all around the world.
Q: What is your favorite holiday and why?
A: Nothing beats going home for Christmas and spending time with my family.
Q: Which of the five senses would you say is your strongest?
A: My sense of taste ranks among that of the best chefs in the world and that is a fact.
Q: Why is FAU the best?
A: FAU is simply "Paradise" when it comes to climate and location.
